Now and Forever
 -Carole King

Now and forever, you are a part of me
And the memory cuts like a knife
Didn't we find the ecstasy, didn't we share the daylight
When you walked into my life

Now and forever, I'll remember
All the promises still unbroken
And think about all the words between us
That never needed to be spoken

We had a moment, just one moment
That will last beyond a dream, beyond a lifetime
We are the lucky ones
Some people never get to do all we got to do
Now and forever, I will always think of you

Didn't we come together, didn't we live together
Didn't we cry together
Didn't we play together, didn't we love together
And together we lit up the world

I miss the tears, I miss the laughter
I miss the day we met and all that followed after
Sometimes I wish I could always be with you
The way we used to do
Now and forever, I will always think of you
Now and forever, I will always be with you
You left and forgot to tell my heart how to live without you.

https://youtu.be/c7_Te7iDojA. I watched this one the Friday of the week David Bowie died and ended up sobbing so hard I had trouble breathing.  I had to pause it midway through and run into another room because of how badly I was hyperventilating.

DH and I both loved Bowie and NIN - they were two of our very favorites.  So of course, I was thinking about Tim the whole time I in addition to Bowie.  Tim actually got to see that tour and would often (lovingly) torture me with the fact, since I was only 10 years old at the time while he was 18.  And it didn't help the matter that his urn is on a bookshelf next to the TV, so I could keep looking back and forth between two dead men who I loved very dearly (albeit in totally different ways obviously).

My grief anthem will forever be Phosphorescent's Song for Zula (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FcdOLKx2XG8).  Its been a few years for me now but i heard this just after my husband died of brain cancer after two very ugly years from diagnosis to death and it will always be "that" song for me, the one that can remind me of the horrific pain and confusion I was in once he died.  I did race out on desert plains all night trying to keep him alive and then survive with a child to raise and a career while no one understood why I seemed like a caged animal.  This song covered it all for me.

I've always turned to music as a source of comfort and strength since I was a little kid but this song nearly did me in at the time.
The irony, three years down the line, is that I did "open myself that way again"....

"I Miss My Friend" by Darryl Worley

https://youtu.be/8zNf4sOO_mg

Based on lyrics alone, it's unclear if this is about a break-up or something more permanent . . . . . but the message of the video is clear.

A trio of songs by Diamond Rio:

"I Believe" - https://youtu.be/oDJS-TfrIs4

"One More Day" - https://youtu.be/2UWx-shGM0g - This one played on a loop in my head for days between when E died and his funeral service.

I don't listen to a lot of country music, but I loved this apropos simple and beautiful little gem from Willie Nelson and Loretta Lynn called "Lay Me Down":
