Title: Sexy Widowed Saturday Night!
Post by: MissingSquish on March 14, 2015, 07:02:02 PM
Hi sex kittens!  Welcome to the world of sexy widowed Saturday night!  It is a time for us widows and widowers to gather together on what can be the loneliest night of the week.  I'm hanging out with the dog and watching some YouTube videos.

Hello, from sunny CA! I have the flu and bronchitis, so I am quite lovely tonight, with my stringy hair, sickly pallor, and dark circles.  My voice has taken on a lovely, husky sound, and I can barely talk above a nice, sexy whisper.  I had to cancel weekend plans with my New Guy, but my two furry, four-legged critters are happy to keep me company, while I recline in bed and watch Netflix.

Hope you feel better, LC.  Super-sexy here with stringy hair, too, because who showers on a Saturday when clearly, one is not going anywhere?  So stringy hair and pjs it is.  Grading papers and watching The Unbreakable Kimmie Schmidt on Netflix, which so far is hilarious.  Things will really heat up later when I take on laundry and dishes; if I am feeling like the cougar that I am maybe I will do some sexy widow purging, too, MissingSquish!

Count me in as hoping you feel better soon LC!  I showered today, so my hair is no longer stringy, as it was this morning.

CG, I love my Romans and I love Mary Beard!  That's a great video; I show it in my class.  Life and Death in Pompeii is also a goodie.  And super-sexy, of course!

Jeez, you wids are creeping me out. I'm home alone tonight working on music, but I frankly look pretty good - and I picture you all sitting around with day-old beards and scratching yourselves. Tell you what - if you need me, throw a flip-flop or something.

I do sincerely wish you all a lovely evening, though.

Mary Beard's Caligula.  Just fell asleep to it a few nights ago.  Super sexy too.

I went to a special award dinner for my fitness club tonight.  I was in a smokin' dress and heels.  It was over by 8:45 and I am home, face washed, fuzzy slippers on, all alone.  I am not fond of being a widow right now.

In other news, I gave myself another trim tonight. I have really long hair, but only trimmed about 1/2 inch.

If it makes you feel better, Michael, I may be sick, but at least my legs are shaved, and I'm all lotioned up, so I smell good. ;D

I am in thermals and a sweatshirt, tucked into my sleeping bag in a cabin with 3 guys and 17 kids...boy scout camping weekend.  Made corned beef and cabbage tonight for 30.  Tired and reading some of the posts before I sleep.  Everyone else is in for the night as well so it's pretty quiet.

Eta...hair is also stringy as I have not showered since friday....yeah camping, same with the 17 teenage boys!

Feel better LC!

My dad kept my girls all night last night, so I had the morning to myself. Of course I didn't do anything exciting, but I got some things done around the house. Now we're all home and just relaxing in our pj's.

Pajamas after a very long hard day. DD seems to have completely given up naps. Went to the grocery store, ear doctor, kid's party, dog walk. Ran into a very good friend of Dan's who informed me she's getting a divorce. Had the sensation of wanting to tell Dan, then the sensation that he should be the one telling me. DD had fun at the party but she's been crabby and clingy lately and I can't tell if it's because her ears are bothering her or if it's because I've coddled her too much now that she's been sick for so long.

I am still in shorts, since I biked - my favorite gym, the bike trails, were darned nice today.  My cold is better, but it still convinced me I should stay home instead of heading down to the St. Patrick's Day parade this morning.  I am finally done planning my radio show tomorrow [1] after listening to some new music that came in the three weeks since I was last on.  It's time for a wee dram and to see what's good on the Tivo.

Take care,
Rob T

Just dragged my butt home after falling asleep at new guys place.  Wish I could just spend the night in the arms of a man instead of in this big empty bed.  Have to work tomorrow, so it's a little SNL and sleep here.

Here it is, another wild and crazy Saturday night. I am in my bedroom with three dogs hiding out because my 15 year old daughter has a social life.  I have 20 kids hanging out for game night in my kitchen, dining room and family room.

I think it's time to rethink my "no tv in the bedroom" rule since I'm he only one ever in here... :-/

I'm sitting at my computer, supposedly working on a paper/project on grief support for college students.  I'm wearing a tie-dyed t-shirt and jeans and my hair has sand in it from working in the yard earlier.  Looks like I'll need a shower before I hit the sack.  I'm drinking....water....and wishing I had a Cadbury Egg.

Going to go put on my pj's and watch some sappy Hallmark movie by myself and probably fall asleep within 30 mins!

This is me, checking in.  Thankfully, I am in much better shape this week, than last.  I am currently sitting out on New Guy's patio, enjoying the fresh air and a gentle breeze.  I've got on a pair of denim shorts and a hoodie that says, "California Paradise Love" on it.  My feet are bare, my legs are shaved, and my long hair is blowing in the breeze.  I also smell good, because I put lotion on a few minutes ago.  Right now, as I am typing this, I am looking over at my guy and watching him read.  I love these quiet times with him.

By the way, Maureen, I now have an intense craving for Cadbury Eggs, and there are none to be had, at the moment.  Thanks a lot!   :P

Mangomom, I am hiding out in my office as my girls have a sleepover.  They are tame, though - one friend, watching Wreck It Ralph.  Only the timid cat really has reason to hide.

When do I get to do sleepovers?  I'd even buy footy pajamas if I had to do so.

Take care,

I get most Friday evenings to myself thanks to my dad and in-laws. I suppose I need to find a willing participant for sleepovers. :)

Not much going on here tonight either. My daughters were entertaining themselves with snap chat. I was chatting online with a friend in between cleaning. Then we watched a movie. Now they're all getting ready for bed. We're planning on going to church in the morning, getting a bite for lunch, and then seeing a movie. It sounds like my in-laws, sister in-law, and niece are joining us too. Should be fun (seriously.) I get along with my in-laws.

It's actually Sunday morning now but I'm still on Saturday (can't sleep).
Just a quiet evening at home with my cats & my fish (who make lousy conversationlists but provide some comic relief & a sense of not being quite so alone.
I decided to do something novel for a change & not get blotto drinking Tequilla tonight.
Not sure it was a good idea but at least I won't be hungover tomorrow.
What an uplifting post, huh?  Sorry, I just hate living alone & am too shy to venture out anywhere.
The TV will be my lover tonight. It doesn't care if my hair isn't done or my clothes don't match  :-X

Is it Saturday again already?

I went to bed last night feeling under the weather with an itchy throat & ear. That went away by this morning so I got busy in my front yard mowing/edging/weeding/trimming/raking.
5 hrs later I feel like I've been hit by a train. I feel completely wiped out. Too exhausted to even cook dinner for myself. I planned to make spaghetti tonight & have all the ingredients, just zero energy.. & grumpy? Oh man.

Maybe it's the wonky weather here. One day it's upper 80's & the next it's in the lower 60's.
I'm probably getting a cold due to all the fluctuation.

The good news is it's supposed to rain over the next few days. We're in our 4th year of a severe drought here. Rumor has it that if things don't turn around it'll become illegal to water our lawns.
I guess that would mean less mowing which at the moment doesn't sound half bad, lol.

Party on..
I'm going to curl up with the kitties & a movie tonight.
I thought of building a fire but am too lazy even to do that much.
Wish I had a husband to spoil me. Having to do everything all the time regardless of how crappy I'm feeling sucks. & my sadiversary is Easter so feeling nostalgic & not in a good way tonight.
I know you all get it..

(((hugs to all)))

If the definition of "sexy" has been expanded to include lodging myself on the couch, wearing a collegiate tee and Adidas pants, I'm in! I'll even throw in a glass (or two) of Moscato whilst watching my Lifetime movie, just to add some "sizzle".

Not that I need that with my hair swept up into a messy bun.

But just sayin'.

Aw, sending you tight hugs, Baylee. I just got back from picking up my daughter from the musical she is playing in (Sweeney Todd). Both kids went straight to bed, so I did, too. But sleep is alluding me once again. Comfy nightshirt and purring kitty snuggled against me. Waiting for SNL to start.

Sweet dream wishes for all of you...

I'm almost never off on weekends (and I've had two in a row, wow!), so I'm rarely up this late on a Saturday night (unless insomnia strikes). I just got home from seeing my sister in another musical, Nine-- not the caliber of the shows I saw last week in NYC ;) but they did a good job. I violated my "no soda" policy and drank a Cherry Coke, so I'll be up for awhile. Guess it's back to stats for me-- cramming for the final. Once that's done, no more statistics, ever!! Woohoo!!

Hugs, y'all.

How is everyone tonight? I hope well. I'm checking some of my son's schoolwork - right now a PP Presentation on the importance of honeybees. I have the White House Correspondents' Dinner on C-Span. Ordered in Chinese for the kids for dinner, because I didn't feel like going to the store today. Who can top my exciting evening?

Meh. Went grocery shopping tonight, am currently sulking over my fairly new single status.  I miss my ex bf, though I know I did the right thing by breaking it off with him.

A random guy I had been in contact with over a year ago messaged me. I agreed to coffee tonight without remembering who he was. I'm flaking out on it.  Do not feel like leaving the house.

Was on the online dating sites tonight as well, and I'm feeling extremely frustrated.

Sorry for my rant. Just not feeling good right now.

I spent the day working on a Duck Race...

Two younger sons away for a band trip, my daughter at a birthday sleepover and my oldest exhausted from the day's activities (plus his GF is on the same band trip as his brothers, LOL!)

We had dinner together and now he is in bed while read, post and watch Star Trek Voyager episodes under the fuzzy blanket.

Technically it's Saturday, but early morning. I made myself a strawberry daiquiri. Mentioned it on Facebook...minds blown. Lol! I haven't had alcohol for almost 20 years. My body is used to water. I don't even drink pop. My girls are staying the night with my dad, so I figured why not? It was good, but I'm definitely a lightweight.

It's only about 1:00 pm, where I am, but I doubt the rest of my day is going to be any different from the first part of my day. With all the stress, extra work (with my teaching assistant now gone, just a few short weeks before the end of school), health issues, financial worries, etc., I have had to deal with recently, I am choosing to take this day to do absolutely nothing.

I am still in my pajamas (the cute ones I wore, for the very first time, on the last good night I had with my Kenneth). I am pondering the fact that I am at a crossroad in my life, and need to figure out what I am doing with my life. I am missing my Kenneth, terribly. I am depressed, because I don't have the gas money to go spend the weekend with my New Guy; and he is working, so he can't come to me.

I'm also feeling a deep sense of loss today. My teaching assistant resigned, due to a very bad situation in her home and having to make an immediate move out of state. I completely support her, in her decision to leave an abusive, cheating spouse. At the same time, she was the only person I had left, here in my little town, that I was genuinely close to and could count on for help, when I needed it. She was the only person I could write down as an emergency contact, when I have to go to the ER, due to my migraines. The fact that she is moving this weekend, just reminds me of all the people, who have moved away or left my life in the last few years, which was okay, when my Kenneth was still alive; but now that he is gone, I just feel so alone and lost and empty.

Pretty sexy way to spend a Saturday, huh?  :'(

I'm still at work. I'll be leaving here in a few minutes to head to rehearsal-- I'm insane and agreed to tackle a play in the last three weeks before they open. For those two or three hours, I get out of my head and into someone else's, so it's a relief, but it's exhausting too. Home, pajamas, one last look at the board, then hit the pillow and hope for sleep. Back to work tomorrow. Try to stave off hopelessness for another day. Yeah... super sexy, that. :-/

Beautiful spring day here. Pretty much the first one of the year. Participated in a town meeting style revote of the school budget this morning. Amazing process to witness - folks of very different views and strongly held beliefs engaging in civil discourse to arrive at an outcome. Then we had Green Up day - oldest in the country where the state citizens go out en masse to clean up the roadways of garbage. It is really nice to see folks taking ownership of the state like this.

Spent the afternoon raking, cutting up downed limbs for firewood and looking for wood frogs in the pond. It was a good day.

In my jammies now, listening to DD sing in the shower, two dogs curled up next to me, trying to decide what I might watch tonight. Good Saturday night to all my fellow wids out there.

Going over Algebra 2 lessons with my son tonight. Woo hoo! Hyperbolas! Such is the life of a wild homeschooling mom who should have gotten more done during the week. Sigh...

BTW, Virgo, when I saw the thread up again this morning, I thought I had lost a whole day and it was really Sunday morning. ;D

Sending out hugs to all you sexy wids and an extra especially tight one for lcoxwell.

My Sexy Widowed Saturday Night plans to remain in my pajamas for the entire day and do absolutely nothing, whatsoever, have changed. My teaching assistant sent me a text a little while ago and asked me to join her and another friend of hers (from out of state) in packing up her things for her move. I am a non-drinker, but as she put it, I could sit there and watch the other friend poor shots, while my assistant and I cry our eyes out. Apparently, her husband's new girlfriend will be serving her with divorce papers at some point in the evening, too, so this night should just be a complete barrel of fun. Now, who could resist an invitation like that?

By the way SVS, thank you so much for the extra especially tight hug. Right now, I need all I can get. Love ya, lady!

My nephew's birthday was quite spirited.

Now, time for this auntie to get "spirit-ed"!

We had an earthquake here today in Indiana!?!?!?! I thought it was machinery from a house being built in our neighborhood until I saw the news. Wow, crazy!

Not much going on tonight. Just messaging my guy friends, painting nails, and getting a card/gift ready for a bridal shower tomorrow. Inside the card I wrote "Cherish every moment together!" :)

Tim's cousin got married on 4/10 (4 days after my sadiversary...I was kinda a mess at the ceremony) and I wrote the same thing on the card I got them.

"Love each other.  Take care of each other.  Cherish every moment."

I just got back from a trip to BJ's with DS#3.  Spent all day doing laundry and clearing out the attic space, but that's for another post ;)
DS#1 is out with the GF, DS#2 is at the movies with friends and DD is at a festival with a friend, I am waiting for her call to go get her.  My kids have much more active social lives than I do!  I will continue with laundry for the evening and getting photos gathered for tomorrow.

I took my daughters to Avengers Day at the Hall of Heros today. Fun day! Now we're just hanging out at home and relaxing. I cleaned my whole house yesterday, but you wouldn't be able to tell by looking around. Cleaning the house with kids at home is like shoveling the driveway while it's snowing.

All I'm doing tonight is preparing for Mother's Day tomorrow.
I was going to send my mom flowers but they're so darned expensive, I couldn't afford it so I bought a really nice bouquet at the grocery store today.
I'm going to arrange them in a vase, add some ribbon, a card & take them to her tomorrow & spend the afternoon visiting.
My mom & I have been on the outs for awhile so I'm hoping this'll make us both feel better. I just got off the phone with her & she seemed happy to hear from me so am looking forward to it with a sense of relief. I think it's going to be a pretty good day...

It's getting warm here & I'm digging through my summer clothes.
I've been working on a tan this past month. Think I can actually wear shorts in public now without being embarrassed by my pasty white legs, lol. Feeling better about myself & ready for the heat wave that's coming... (It's 100 degrees + here most days every summer)

Relax & have fun tonight..
(((hugs)))

I'm sitting here working on creating answers to 11 questions for my oral final in my communications class...and watching the weather radar.  Fortunately, I'm not 45 miles west of here where one supercell has dropped at least a dozen little tornadoes tonight.  Hopefully the wheat fields are the only things damaged.  It's pretty rural out there.

I'm home and in my stunning California Midwives Association t-shirt, which is so old and peppered with holes that it looks like I took a shotgun blast at some point... but I digress. Anyway, I actually had a fairly exciting Sat night for once. My sister just released her first album, and she had a party/gig to celebrate at a local theater. I wore a dress, hose, heels, makeup, the whole nine yards-- haven't done that in years and years-- and she had me come up and sing one of our old standbys with her. It was pretty awesome (video on FB, if you happen to be my friend, or want to be!), and I had a blast. I felt-- alive. For the first time in a long time. It was kind of amazing. :)

Everyone remember that smiley right there-- I have no long how long this high will last, or when I'll feel like smiling again. But I'm enjoying it right now.

Aww, thanks! My sister is the pro, I'm just an enthusiastic amateur, but I do enjoy it. I haven't done anything like that in-- well, almost a year and a half. I do community theater, the last play I was in was summer 2013-- but I'm doing another one right now. (We open Thurs!) Maybe it's progress?

Once again, I am in bed with a migraine. Medications have me feeling a bit dopey, but it is far better than the alternative of sitting here, hurting. I am in my most comfortable pajamas, cuddled up next to my furry, four-legged critters (Boo & Vinnie), and am finding the courage to go back and finish watching a few of the shows Kenneth and I had started together, before he died. Lots of memories are floating to the surface, and I am feeling very bittersweet and maudlin, as I know my time here, in this house, with his things, and all these memories, will be coming to and end in just a couple of months. Everything is beginning to feel so unreal, and I am feeling a bit lost in my own skin, these days.

It's that time of the week to bump this thread back to the top, ladies and gentlemen. So please, tell us about your Saturday evening, which is, hopefully, far more exciting than mine, at the moment.

I am spending my evening texting with New Guy, since I can't go see him. My arms are lovely shades of purples, blues, yellows, and greens, and I look like a sad, little pi?ata, from all the IVs and drawing of blood in the last few days. Since I can't go out, I am sitting at home watching Netflix; and since I am having trouble stomaching food, I am eating chicken and jello. So far, the sexiest part of my evening was posting in the real sex thread.

C'mon, you guys are jealous of all the excitement in my life, aren't you?  ;D

Starting SWSN early tonight. My dog hurt her wrist yesterday and I just got back from the vet. She didn't break any bones and the vet thinks it's a soft tissue injury.  We've got some pain medication for her.

So I've got a nice night ahead of me hanging with my favorite creature in the world and trying to keep her comfortable.  More than likely will be sharing a TV dinner with her and watch some reality TV.

Hello everyone! Not much happening here tonight. Made barbequed ribs for the kids for dinner, then caught some Everybody Loves Raymond episodes. The show still makes me LOL, even though I miss watching it with T. It's one of those shows that my kids are too young to really relate to the humor, so I watch alone. Who am I kidding? I watch most shows alone, although we always watch Modern Family together. Now I'm settled into bed and wide awake. Sigh... Looks like RIFF wins for best night so far. Smores, mmm!

Once again, I have a killer migraine to get my evening off to a wonderful start. Thank God for delivery, so I didn't have to cook dinner. I suspect the salt intake from the food I just ate is a little higher than what I am supposed to be taking in, since my mini stroke.

I did not go see New Guy this weekend, because I have physical therapy first thing Monday morning. He and I have been texting back and forth, while I sit here with my cuddly four legged critter. I have been thinking how much I love my Pit Bull, Boo, and I appreciate that she is such an affectionate dog. I just wish she did not feel the urge to sit on top of me, pretty much every minute of the day, especially since it is around 90 degrees outside and not much cooler in the house. Warm licks and hot doggie breath is not nearly as much fun as one might expect.  :P

Seeing this title gave me a jolt of a memory.  When Rick was in the hospital, probably only a week before he died, he was getting his one and only chemo treatment.  They were also giving him something to reduce the potassium in his body, apparently he had too much.  Whatever it was, it made him have diarrhea really bad and he was spending much time on the porta potty in the room and I was there helping him.  He made a joke about our exciting Saturday night.  I laughed and said I was happy to be there sharing it with him.  I'd still rather be doing that with him than any Saturday night I've had since then.

Now, if I had been checking in last weekend, I could have told you about the wonderful day I spent at the beach with New Guy, and about our dinner boat cruise and evening under the stars. Now THAT was a sexy evening.  ;)

Alas, this week, my Saturday evening shall be anything, but sexy, as I am at home, where the temperatures hit a lovely 112 degrees outside, today. As is typical, the cooler decided to quit working, on the hottest day of the year, so far.  Needless to say, it's nice and toasty in my abode and far too hot for anything sexy.

Although....

Yes, it is Saturday night.  I'm sorry you're having a miserable day.  Unfortunately, I don't think my exciting day/evening is going to do much for you.  I spent the day working in the yard weeding, planting, etc., then I've spent the afternoon and until just now, cleaning out and painting the pantry closet in the kitchen and in the dining room.  I'm just totally exhausted so I'm stopping for the night even though I'm not done.  My hair is a mess and I've got paint all over me.  Not quite a sexy sight!  Going to hit the shower and then try to figure out something simple for dinner.  Will probably crash in front of the TV watching the latest Hallmark movie.

I'm going out to dinner with her and my sister-in-law one week from tonight (July 4), which is the 1-year anniversary of Catherine's death.  We're going to a Chinese restaurant and hoping to avoid all the holiday celebrations.

I'm sitting here with a small glass of bourbon and a tall glass of lemonade. I'm wearing - believe it or not - my long-sleeve Tommy Bahama pajamas.  It's a cool evening and I don't want to turn the heat on.

Hugs to all of you having a tough day/evening. I'm in good company at least. Since my wrist is healing, I'm back to trying to finish packing up our house. It is so emotionally hard for me, but it must be done. I feel sick every time I drive there. I'm undoing things T did - simple things like taking down the quilt hanger he put up for me. More painful than most would understand. But I'm making some progress at least. Not a fun way to spend my Saturday evening, but now I'm home and resting. Hoping to get settled down enough to sleep.

Hi MS! Made it through our 3rd July 4th without T. Thankfully the fireworks were rescheduled due to weather, so I got a brief reprieve. Fireworks without T just don't feel the same. We had T's parents over for an indoor picnic, which was nice. Right now I'm thinking about the red-velvet cake I passed on earlier and trying to avoid a trip down to the kitchen. Hopefully sleep will take over instead. I could use the rest. (May be hard with all the neighbors' fireworks still going off).

Hugs...

My daughters and I were invited to see a fireworks show next Saturday, so we've just been cleaning and organizing. Our basement flooded yesterday, so we've been sorting through all of the wet stuff. I had professionals come to extract the water and I filed a claim with my insurance. The dehumidifiers and fans will be here until at least Monday. Then the real reorganizing will start. We're just doing what we can now. What a mess! At least our basement will be organized though I suppose. Fun Saturday night!

My family all went to an all-day holiday picnic/swimming/fireworks extravaganza out in the country-- I was invited, but I had to work. That was fine; I didn't feel like being social anyway. I got a small pizza from a local bistro and ate it while watching Captain America: The First Avenger on cable. I ended up curled in a fetal position on the couch, telling myself over and over, "I'm fine by myself, I don't care, I don't need anyone." Meant to come here and post about it, but I couldn't summon the energy. I went to bed before my gang got home, just so I wouldn't have to pretend to be glad they all had a great time.

Speaking of the sex thread-- I wondered about posting there as well. I had another round of intensely vivid dreams that led to a small breakdown when I woke up. Happy Fourth to me. Sigh.

Happy Saturday night sexy wids!
Just got done cooking dinner on the grill with DS.  We've got bats behind our shutter so we watched them as they came out.  Counted 36 of them.  Just hope they stay outside!  Even with them, the bugs were pretty bad so we're inside now where I'll do the dishes while he finds something to watch on Netflix.  Then, I'll probably fall asleep as soon as I sit down to watch something!

At home with sick kid.  Have had to go to hospital and MD twice this week.  Plans today-cancelled.  Plans tomorrow- cancelled.  Today would have been our 6th wedding anniversary.  Sadly, the days are so meaningless and grey and I am so tired lately that I didn't even notice until mid-way through the day.  Raising a glass to all my virtual widow/er friends tonight.

I am in bed, watching TV because my first floor AC crapped out and I'm tired of sweating.  Cool and comfy and tired from a day of sorting and purging in prep for our move.  I will be asleep before 10:00 I'm sure.

Saturday night seems pretty identical to Saturday afternoon. I stubbed my little toe last night and the neat shade of purple and the pain I feel with every step tells me it may be broken. Hopefully not! So I have been laying on the couch all day with a pillow and blanket. I did get dressed in jeans and a t-shirt as to not traumatize the pizza guy though!

Gah. Leftover pizza on the sofa in pajama pants and tee absent-mindedly watching a random Lifetime flick.

Doesn't get any sexier than that. It do not!

Just finished a screaming match with my 15-year-old dd that concluded with her dramatically smashing a glass on a tile floor. The appalling injustice done to her? She was asked to move her legs so her brother could sit down on the couch. @@

Now no one is one the couch-- the tv has been turned off, the glass swept up, and everyone sent to bed. I have retreated to my room to watch Mysteries at the Museum on my laptop. Another scintillating Saturday night. Sigh.

Surely all these nights in a row of not sleeping well has to end soon. CG, I'm so sorry your child is sick. Clinking my glass back and sending you tight anniversary hugs.

My daughters and I went to a fireworks show too. They hire professionals to do the fireworks, rent inflatables for the kids, and have vendors. Best and loudest fireworks display I've ever seen. Hopefully we'll be invited again next year. :) I did tear up during the fireworks. The last professional fireworks show we saw together as a family.

Sexy widowed Saturday night is upon us again.

I went out for a nice motorcycle ride this morning, but I am still struggling with grief induced sleep loss.  I keep waking up at 3 AM and am unable to go back to sleep. Still walking around in a bit of a daze and missing my uncle terribly.

I've tried soothing music, warm bath before bed, lavender and extra anti-anxiety meds. Not working. Nope. Nada.

I know it's going to take a bit of time to process all of this.  Tried walking a bit more today, and will try to get into hot yoga tomorrow morning and see if the excercise helps me.

Hello fellow sexy wids!
MS, sorry you're not sleeping...that just adds to the anxious feelings.  Here's hoping tonight is better for you.

No plans for me tonight...   Was at my sisters for a small get together this afternoon so now I'm hot and tired.  Gonna turn on the AC, slip into my jammies and then cleanup the kitchen.  Maybe I'll try to find a movie to watch and get to bed at fairly early.  Have a busy day tomorrow...

Tonight is my last night in our home.  I'm alone, by choice.  I took my inlaws to see the new house and then went out to dinner with them, they are being so supportive about my decision to move but it's very emotional for Tim's mom to say goodbye to our home.  Now I'm in bed, with a half glass of wine (so I can still take an Ambien).  Hoping for a little sleep, MS I hope you sleep too!

Like most Saturdays, today was a work day- rather an uncharacteristically busy one. After work a bunch of us went out for Mexican to celebrate our co-worker's new job- we refused to call it a farewell party, since no one wants her to leave. The nice thing about nursing is that one can always stay "in the pool"-- come work once in awhile when needed.

Now I'm home and crashed on my bed, wishing desperately I was sharing it with something other than a pile of pillows and a stuffed hedgehog. Because desperation is sooooo sexy...  ::)

Alone tonight. No dog. This is the lowest I've felt since Squish's death 3 years ago.  I'm getting all of the classic severe grief symptoms. No appetite, nauseous continuously, dreading going home, low quality sleep, tired all the time and depressed beyond belief.  I have been making it a point to try to get some excercise in on a daily basis to try to help with some of this.

Went out with my best friend, sister and her girlfriend for brunch today, but it doesn't change the fact that I came home to a completely empty house. The silence here is deafening. My heart is completely broken open and is bleeding.

Quiet day for me, too. I took my parents to Costco so they could piggyback off my membership there. Went grocery shopping and had a decent workout at the gym. Had steak, french fries and half a bottle of wine for dinner. Popped in and out of the boards periodically. I'm actually getting tired now that it's 10 PM; I got up at 6 this morning (which is "sleeping in" for me since Catherine died).

I have happy memories of an awesome time in NYC two weeks ago. I'll call some friends up before next weekend.

I am not liking being alone at night, either, now that I am in a new place, my son has moved out, and my dogs are in another state with my best friend from college and his fiance. With Saturday night upon us, I am sitting and enjoying a quiet evening. New Guy and I went to the market earlier today and were profusely thanked by the cashier for being the happiest people she had seen, for a couple of people who had had to wait in a long line. Today is my mother in-law's birthday. (I suppose technically she's not my mother in-law anymore?) We celebrated with family. I love her! She's amazing, really. The woman fixed US dinner. She even made three different desserts. My sister in-law and I wanted to host and cook, but she insisted.

After everyone left she started talking about her aunt being a widow at a young age. She said she started dating "probably to soon" and her youngest daughter (9) felt pushed away. She lived with her grandmother for awhile. I just said everyone has a different situation and grieves differently. It probably wasn't just the fact that her mom was dating. There were probably other factors. I'm not sure if this was directed at me or not. I haven't started dating, but I know it will be hard for her when I do. I know she'll be happy for me, but worried about how it will effect my daughters. I don't blame her.

Anyway, my 8yo decided to stay the night. I'm hanging out with my other two daughters.

"Adulted" a lot today, including dealing with Chase bank's letter to my wife, telling her they're closing her card for lack of activity. Yes, I've told them she's dead.  Four years now, sheesh. Well, at least they'll stop sending letters. Maybe.

Went to the barn to play with my horses, car promptly broke down. So just gave them some cookies instead and dealt with vehicles. But at least horse spit is a good antidepressant.

Rewarding self with some Mexican food at local place. Think I'm the only anglophone here.

Ugh, adulting. I've had to adult all weekend at work, and I'll have to do it some more at home tomorrow and Tuesday. Have to pay bills, work out my new budget, do a ton of laundry... Bleah. I just want to lay on the couch like a slug and watch Mysteries at the Museum on the Travel Channel.

It IS Saturday, right? I had to double check, cos no one had bumped this...

I was actually off today. Off tomorrow, too. Weird-- a whole weekend. I think I must have scheduled it on purpose because this is my birthday weekend, sort of-- my actual birthday isn't until Wed, but my family usually celebrates on the nearest weekend, so here I am. Except there hasn't been much celebrating-- my mom is on call, and when she's not occupied with work stuff, she's caught up in my pregnant sister's wedding planning. Whatever, it's fine. I went to Build A Bear today and got myself not one but TWO My Little Ponies! Ha!

Now I'm watching the new Doctor Who episode with my daughter, and shopping online for cute PJs. Funny, that-- I never wore pajamas until I became a wid, and now I can't get enough of them. As addictions go, I guess ponies and PJs are relatively innocuous ones... ;)

So that's my exciting, sexy Saturday. Here's a piccie of my pony stuffies-- please ignore my messy room. (The middle two are the new ones.)

I've got chiles roasting in the oven and leftover birthday brownies in the fridge. Add Guy Fieri on the tube-- yay for Triple D-- and I have all the ingredients for a super-sexy Saturday. W00T!

Managed to get the bulk trash out before 6 am, actually took it all out around 4 am...there are perks to being an insomniac! Finished my grocery shopping only to realize that the one thing I HAD to get (dog food) was forgotten. So...I will be going back tonight. Currently doing the laundry, just finished loading the dishwasher and plan to start cooking dinner in about 20 minutes. Living the dream!!

And no....I haven't hooked up the stereo, yet! :P

Home moping tonight.  The weather turned cool suddenly.  I don't want to turn the heat on, since the temps will be back up in a couple of days.  I agreed to help at a community rocket launch tomorrow...something I always did with John...and now I don't want to do it.  This is the time of year I moved to Kansas, to be with him...5 years ago.  I just keep thinking...how is this now my life?  I'm having a hard time staying in the present or looking forward tonight.

Soccer fields this morning...brrr! It was less than 50 degrees and very windy. Back home to warm up. Then we went to an outdoor  police officer appreciation event. My wardrobe for today was 2 pairs of socks, 2 pairs of pants,  shirt, sweatshirt, coat, hat, and gloves. We had a great time!  They have inflatables,  sport events, and gun range, live music, zip line, rock wall, helicopter rides, and tons of food. My daughters look forward to it every year. Now we're home all warm and cozy. My youngest daughter is staying with my in-laws.

Never left the house today, stayed in sweats all day, made clam chowder and studied for a big exam Monday.  New guy and his boys came over for chowder and now it's just my youngest and I watching Jimmy Fallon on the DVR (our favorite happy fix) and I'm still wearing the same sweats.

So clam chowder & more reruns of Quantum Leap it is! Boy, my life is exciting.

I should've looked for Quantum Leap. Instead, I watched the first five minutes of Sleepless in Seattle, and now I'm in my room, sobbing and trying to see through tears to type.  :'(  Haven't seen that movie in 20 years, and I guess it'll be at least 20 more before I try again. And I thought I was doing pretty well... :(

Sigh. Left for dinner for my mom'said birthday at one of my favorite restaurants. They canceled as soon as I got out of my neighborhood. Dressed up, showered, and had make up on for no reason. Being well into Saturday night, everyone else had plans. So, steakhouse was replaced with Taco Bell drive thru. Dress up clothes replaced with pjs. Hair do replaced with a sloppy pony tail. Playing video games.

Actually was supposed to go to a tournament followed by party.  Woke up sniffley and honestly, just freaking tired.  Slept most of afternoon, waking up to one of those stupid "losing her" nightmares.  Can't even take an afternoon nap.  Might be from not exercising today.

Anyway, kicking it with a burrito made from Hormel chili, waiting for it to be late enough to sleep.  That irritating sick place between too well to sleep, but not alert enough to get anything done like studying.

Came home after another delightful 12 hours at work to find the fridge is not working. The freezer is okay, but the fridge is lukewarm at best. Scrounged some supper, now we're catching up with Doctor Who episodes, which isn't the worst way to spend a Sat night, but it's far from sexy. Busy day! We started our day rushing around to get out the door.  Getting three girls ready on time is a challenge.  My youngest had two basketball games.  Her games overlapped a little with my middle daughters choir concert. Thankfully my in-laws were available to help me out with transportation. I left the game early to go to the concert. Then they came to the concert after the last game. Afterwards the girls and I went to Hobby Lobby,  Bath and  Body Works,  and Panera Bread.  It ended up being an expensive outing. .

Uh, not a bad Saturday until about 5pm when the bottle of wine was opened.  Drank it really quickly.  Then a beer.  Then had the bright idea of swigging out of a bottle of some disgusting brandy that had been sitting around for years.  And it all came up - obviously - and I found myself in bed by 9pm, sick as a dog.  Not too bad this morning though, but I somehow never learn that while being slightly drunk once in a while can be fun, more and more alcohol on top of that doesn't ever lead to more and more enjoyment.
Title: Re: Sexy Widowed Saturday Night!
Post by: Quixote on November 15, 2015, 11:19:09 AM
Hang in there, Brenda.  Went down the drinking to stop the nightmares route for a while--  it doesn't really work (aside from the health issues).  You just end up more depressed the next day, and the sleep disturbance starts getting to you.  If this starts happening on a regular basis, really recommend not having alcohol in the house.  This isn't some AA rag here, it's about realizing you're in a fragile place right now and keeping the house "widow proof".

This isn't some AA rag here, it's about realizing you're in a fragile place right now and keeping the house "widow proof".

Yeah, it's not a daily thing.  It's a once-weekly thing, saved for Saturday, and I never drink at any other time.  Normally, I can stop at a bottle of wine (and I know that's too much in one sitting anyway) and have a pretty decent evening doing some cooking and having a few family members over for a meal.  But once in a while, I get the "yeah Brenda you're having a great time after knocking back the whole bottle so surely adding more alcohol on top of that will make you feel even better" thing going on.  It never works; I always regret anything over that single bottle of wine, without exception, but in the moment I kind of lose my common sense.  But that's alcohol, right?

I like the concept of the "widow proof" house.  No alcohol sitting around (and if I do buy some, it needs to be a sensible single portion, not a case of beer or a two-for-one offer on wine), etc.  I've already taken steps to widow proof the house in other ways (getting rid of any firearms, razor blades, stockpiles of prescription meds etc.), but there's clearly work to be done.

But today has been a pretty good Sunday considering.  And next week is looking bright.  And I've a few positive things to look forward to in the near future in terms of getting my life back together (will soon be retraining for a new career, my wonderful new girlfriend, kids who aren't causing me any headaches and who are doing great in school, moving into a smaller and more manageable place, and finally scheduled surgery to sort out a nagging health issue), so things are moving in the right direction other than the occasional careless "I'm still twenty years old - woo hoo!" accident with the alcohol.

Totally missed it. I've been working like a dog this week, so my Saturday night consisted of my dragging in from work, swallowing, some supper, falling into bed, and conking out almost immediately so I could do it again today. :-\ Didn't even get to see the new Doctor Who!

Two Christmas parties I was invited to.  Supposed to be a judge at an arts competition thing, so I'd already turned them down. But headachey to the extreme, so I bailed on that, too.  So at home with dog.  Napped for a bit, then walked the night with cigar and pooch.

Mostly caught in thoughts.  Today, so many years ago, it was the first time I kissed the last girl I'd kiss.  And she admitted she loved me, despite the boyfriend and all that.  We were engaged within the week.  Then we went on our first date.  She held my hand and told me we'd never have children, and was I okay with that?  I knew about her health from the first kiss.  And back then we were immortal, anyway.

Maybe we still are.  And I still have her dog.

I dropped by a friend's house to deliver a meal,  baked goods,  and gift cards.  I had plans to eat dinner with my in-laws afterwards,  so I invited him to go along. He was Phil's best friend from grade school through high school. He's going through a rough time.  Recently diagnosed with multiple myeloma,  work related accident that caused him to have several facial reconstructive surgeries before that, and a divorce.  His wife left after his last reconstructive surgery.  It was a nice visit.

After I took him home I went to the gym.

I got a lot done today: Went to the optician to adjust 2 pairs of glasses, got my haircut, went to Costco and the supermarket. Hugs to you SVS.  Music is such pain and pleasure isn't it?

I've had a day. Backstory:  I run a poky home-based business, and the HOA where we live has been cracking down on such enterprises.  Instead of fighting this, and realizing I'm growing out of working from my garage, I found a warehouse condo in a small complex.  Bought by me, financed by me.  Today was the big move.  My employee arrived at 8 AM with her husband, and my cousin's husband, along with a couple of friends showed up with a truck.  What I thought was going to be a difficult move was made much easier.  The guys moved all the heavy ceramic pots, plants, design table and we set up shelving units and the new office space.  Just as I was thinking about ordering pizza for all my helpers, my aunt (who's been going through chemo but never wants to miss out on the action) drove up with a platter of sandwiches, salads and drinks for everyone.  It does take a village, and I am forever grateful for the one that surrounds me.

We finished, it looks like an actual place of work.  I had a moment while leaving, saying "hey Jeff, look at me!  Look how I'm taking care of our family and how everyone is taking care of us!"

I'm exhausted but happ.  The garage is now a garage, and my son is having a wicked ping pong tournament right now with his friends.  I had a hot tub, changed into my old Morrocan djellaba and my 9 year old combed my hair out while I relaxed by the fire with a glass of wine.  Oldest DD called a few minutes ago wondering how today went and wished she had been here.  There was enough leftover food from lunch so I didn't have to worry about feeding everyone for a change.

Whew.

HAVE to post, as it was a Saturday Night that I was, *ahem*, OUT-OF-THE-HOUSE after dark.  :D

Yes, it was a seven-year-old's birthday party, and yes, it was in a local recreation centre, but HOT DAMN, if I didn't have Jelly Belly's, a hot dog AND make a basket, or THREE (haven't played basketball in twenty years).

Said Seven-Year-Old is a groovy kid who wears sequins and Dame Edna glasses to Grade One, so it felt a bit like a social event. And I had these awesome little coconut-covered marshmallow puffy clouds of loveliness that I haven't tasted since I was five.

I think I win this Saturday night, no?

:D

It's here again!  I'm super sexily grading an endless pile of freshman essays and volleying with my child as to how many Thin Mints constitute an acceptable after dinner treat (this child can argue her case ad infinitum - it is both impressive and exhausting).  Can't really complain though because I went to a spectacular show last night in Brooklyn and the amazing Tenement Museum this morning.  Already dreading Monday though, a constant theme of sexy widowed Sat nights.

Evening...it's really quiet here.  Two high school kids are at a dance tonight and my daughter is at a friends for the evening.  I can't change into comfy clothes because I have to go get my daughter around 9:30pm.  So here I am, should be doing more paperwork to catch up at work.  I've been having a sense of dread more often as all my kids begin spending more and more time with friends, which is great for them...but, well you know...it's really quiet here.

I have spent the weekend with old friends from high school. One was my best friend back then. I hadn't seen her since the day I married my first husband. We have had a blast catching up on old times and life in general. It was good to have fun with old friends who knew me well 35 years ago and who could listen to my life story.

I had almost no sleep last night and am having a whale of a good time with fibromyalgia pain, over in my corner of the world, on this cloudy, icky Saturday. New Guy has a date night planned, since one (or both) of us has been sick nearly every weekend for the last month. I am in the great debate of deciding whether to disappoint both of us and cancel, or to suck it up try to enjoy myself, even if I am in pain and miserably tired.

I was supposed to go out and meet some friends to hear a band play. One by one, they had to cancel. So I decided to stay home and not go alone. Alone is all I ever do these days. I miss my wife, I miss my chapter 2, I miss the life I ince had. Off to bed.

I'm trying to settle my nerves. My daughter woke up complaining of chest pain that radiated to her back. Worsened with her feeling dizzy and nauseous. Her band fundraiser spaghetti dinner was tonight. I had pies and soda to drop off, as well as meet family there (I had the tickets) and was taking my in-laws along. Met relatives in the parking lot, handed off tickets and the stuff I had to them, then headed to the ER. She didn't argue about going, so I know she was scared. Thankfully chest x-ray and EKG were okay. MD suggested maybe pulled muscle or mild pleurisy. I'm worn out from putting up a good front, as well as just being in that ER which I hate so much. The staff is fine, just so much time spent there with too many loved ones, etc..

So, I'm in bed getting ready to check schoolwork, wishing I had T here or anyone to just hold me really tight for a while.

oh real exciting night here- my son and I ate dinner in front of the TV, and I got caught up on some charity work - and were in bed by 7pm. My son hasn't been sleeping well given a cough so I set up a makeshift bed in his room and I also have  been having real trouble sleeping so after he was asleep I watched endless Frasier re-runs on my iPad (with earphones) and snacked on low fat chips and drank a wine cooler...to try and help me sleep. Then I surfed my Match.com app and felt depressed at the thought of getting back out there again - and getting burned. Sigh.

Spent my Saturday evening waiting for my son to finish his schoolwork assignments, which were due last night, so I could check them over before he turned them in. He didn't make the midnight deadline for some of them. Honestly, I started feeling stressed out and then just didn't care. After the week we've both had, I understand it was hard for him to get everything done. It is hard to care about 18th century world history when you are afraid something is wrong with your heart and your father died from heart issues. I didn't get things I should have gotten done this week either.

We'll get them done today and take the late deduction. I guess I've lowered my standards, but I think I've adjusted them to our current reality.

Hello from my sexy widowed Saturday night!  In pajamas, with my date - a glass of Malbec, folding laundry, and watching reruns of Girls just trying to find a little bit of escape.  Trying not to think about the fact that my elderly cat has been peeing on my daughter's keyboard (really?  It seems so cruel to add random cat peeing to my load at the moment) and hoping against hope that in the morning it has miraculously all disappeared.  Also trying not to worry about insanely dysfunctional situation generated by my mother imposing 1950s thinking on a 2016 kid when I know I can't confront her right now because I need her to watch said kid while I am away for work for two weeks in May. Also wishing I was in England to be with my love during his own family crisis but I can't because of kid and job.   Humdeedum - not stressed out at all over here.  Nope.  No stress.

I have gotten hooked on the show "Strange Inheritance"  on Fox Business Network.  It's about people who have, you guessed it, strange inheritances from a relative or friend.   In honor of Prince, I was watching the Chapelle's Show skit in which Charlie Murphy played basketball with Prince, then ate pancakes with him.  Still a funny show ten years after its ending.

This is my first sexy Saturday night with all you super sexy wids. I'm looking especially foxy right now in sweat pants and a ratty old t-shirt and my hair piled high in a flirty bun. I just spent an hour and twenty minutes trying to get my two year old to sleep and now that she's finally sleeping I'm ready to party (not really.)

My mom is actually staying the night at my house tonight so if I wanted to go out I guess I technically could but I don't have anyone to go out with. She lives about an hour away and since my husband died she's been coming down to my house every other week for a day or two so I can run errands without the baby. Today I went shopping and bought myself my very first pair of skinny jeans. Normally this world be very exciting news that I'm thin enough to wear skinny jeans but somehow losing forty pounds because I'm too devastated to eat doesn't warrant a celebration. I'll probably return the stupid jeans and continue to wear my sweats. What's the point of rockin cute jeans if my husband can't see me in them?

Just another depressing Saturday night, this makes 15 in a row now and I expect a lifetime of them.

Seven fifteen pm and I've got the ratty old hoodie on, the feet up and poured the glass of Malbec so though I now have a sexy widower to share all of this Saturday night sexiness with, it is still about as sexy as it always was....things could get really racy around here in a little while when we both break out the novels we're reading and fall asleep by nine thirty.

I think I get the fun award tonight- my 13 year old twins decided they wanted to watch Clifford the big red dog, complete with ongoing commentary critiquing it and questioning why I let them watch it when they were little. Then the girl went to bed and the boy is playing his banjo for me and singing in monotone, asking me if he's staying in key. I lied.

Um, twin_mom, you win.  Hands down.  No question.  I'm so brain dead from the work week and schlepping the children around Valley Forge National Park today to try to convince them history is important/fun that Clifford the Big Red Dog sounds really, really good right about now.

I actually like Clifford, I remember reading him when I was little. But the commentary from the boy about how he thinks they're really talking about accepting your druggie friends was something I wasn't up to examining too closely tonight. And then the girl was sitting on the other side of me upset because Emily Elizabeth says it's a full moon 'that's clearly a waxing crescent, not a full moon. What are they teaching kids?!' it was all I could do to bite my tongue and not say "um... When did you become the moon police you geeky science girl??" I did say, are you sure it's waxing and not waning, which earned me an eye roll. :)

Kids say my TV choices are boring. They are watching shows together on-demand on the cable in the basement rec room while I sit my bedroom watching MTV live in my pajamas. Just how I like concerts, in the comfort of my own home!

It was a boring day. I just did stuff around the house, washed bedsheets, re-made the beds, finished a scrapbook project, and went to a short 1 hour french horn recital so my eldest kid can write a paper on it for band. It's a normal Saturday where we had no obligations really. If DH were here, we probably would have gone out for the night to see Dr. Strange or I'd be doing the same thing and he'd have gone out for a game night with his friends.

I'm sitting at my desk in the same clothes I wore yesterday.  Oh, there's a reason for that.  I was flying home from Houston and missed my connection in Denver. But somehow...my suitcase grew legs and made it on the plane that was backing out of the gate when I arrived huffing and puffing after racing the length of the entire B concourse to get there.  I had a lovely night in Denver in a hotel that wanted to charge me 10 bucks for internet access.

I made it home about noon today and I have been trying to get myself to write a paper...this is my sexy widowed Saturday night!  How many more weeks of school?  3?

Happy Saturday, everyone!

Oh...yeah...I was in Houston for oncology follow-up.  My scans are clear again.  I will return in 6 months and hope for more of the same.

One of my oldest, bestest friends and her son were up from NC for the weekend and had never been to Manhattan so we took the kids and marched them through the MET, Central Park, up the Empire State Building and through Times Square (imagine the complaining) and back to the car.  It was a special day for us and our kids; she's not widowed but we've all been through a lot and it was nice to log a happy time on the books but it was hiiiiiiiigh maintenance and exhausting.  I passed out as soon as we got home, barely even making it to sexy widowed Saturday night....  Happy THanksgiving, everyone!

Spending the night at "the office".   It's a quiet night, or perhaps just the calm before the holiday storm.  Every now and then someone keys up and does a radio check, ATC reassuring them that yes, they're on the right frequency.  Maybe this is what the airways will be like after the zombie apocalypse.

I suppose I could bid Saturdays off. Sometimes I get them, sometimes I don't.  I think it's easier when I'm working. I don't feel the strain of the whole "no real social life" thing.  Not as much, anyway.

Home tonight at three.  Tomorrow's vehicle of choice will be somewhat slower, fuzzier and far more opinionated. Jets and horses-- I guess it's not such a bad life, aside from that one still gaping hole in my heart.  But there's no changing that, so we does the best we can does.

Saturday morning I headed to Indianapolis with acquaintances to celebrate my ex sil's 50th birthday.  I rode with her friends. We participated in the 12 bars of Christmas Crawl. I had a great time! We stayed the night and came back this afternoon. New friends!

My Saturday night has the potential to be very interesting. I have the house to myself all night. More than likely it will consist of me wrapping presents while watching TV.

I shoveled the driveway and sidewalk this morning and spent the afternoon/evening baking with Star Wars playing in the tv for white noise. The kids came and went to help once in awhile. Now I'm just chilling with Diet Coke and episode 5! Exciting stuff here!

I've never seen this thread before!  It's so refreshing to know I'm not the only one.......

Sitting here with the laptop and 2 puppies cuddling, watching TV.....  I got up the nerve to ask a man out this morning, but that didn't go where I had hoped.... so......  here I sit....  lonely, as usual.  This shit is pathetic.

Come on - I know some of you have some sexy widowed Saturday night stories to tell tonight.  I'm in my PJs, ignoring a massive kitchen mess after an unsupervised 10 year old "science" project took place while I talked on the phone with a grad school friend.  Kid in bed now, glass of wine in hand.  Should be good for sleep by 9:30.  Very sexy!

I actually did something interesting for once! My son and I went to a chocolate festival and sampled the decadence. He also climbed a rock wall and and did some bungee jumping. I opted to watch. ;D

Later, around midnight, my adult daughter and I ventured out to the 24 hour Walmart to get last minute Super Bowl party items...and Walmart at midnight on a Saturday night was as entertaining as the festival.

I acceded to a request to take the girls shopping after dinner.   I was in Goodwill playing "guess the purpose of the mystery appliance" while they looked for dress-up clothes for a thing at school, and then in Barnes and Noble marveling about how they still have these things called books, and even more anachronistically, how they have a big section of vinyl records for the hipsters (ugh, I hated vinyl and am not in the least nostalgic for it).  After that, it was a rousing evening of guiding Sarah through a reinstall of Windows on her computer.  It's just how we roll here at Chez Thurlow!

Take care,

I just wanted to share how I spent my Saturday night because it is kind of neat...I took my kids to the New York Islanders game (that's not the neat part).

One of the players, Travis Hamonic, lost his dad when he was 10-years-old.  Now he invites kids in similar situations to use his tickets to the game and then, after the game, he meets with them.  (you can google the terrific story ESPN did on him a few years back)  My two were thrilled.  One of the first things he said to them was that he promised that it will get better. He was honest and said that this first year will suck but as time goes on, the pain is less and less.  They will never forget their Dad but the sadness will make way for keeping traditions, making new traditions and living life the way he would have wanted.

Not a bad Saturday night.

Not Saturday, but last Friday:

I went out for the first time with some friends for drinks.  I also wanted to see a Led Zeppelin cover band that was playing that night, but my friends decided to stay perched at their watering hole.  I decided to go by myself to hear the band.  I mean, come on; Misty Mountain Hop (or insert your favorite LZ song here) is the best"fuck cancer" song.  Why? I don't know....  With those pounding drums and everything else going on in the song, I just feel like it is.  Music is incredibly healing.

I felt like I turned my widow sign off for a few hours -- and that was okay.  Thankfully, nobody bothered me or hit on me and I didn't talk to anyone (even thought the bass player looked like the coolest dude strutting his stuff up there on stage....).

Sexy widowed Saturday Night is here!  Bring it!  Back in the early days, I loved this thread.  I used to say I was with my date named Malbec, inevitably in my pajamas by 6 pm and likely watching Silver Linings Playbook for the 8000th time.  Its like 800 degrees below zero, I'm not quite in my pajamas (but close) and for as much as things have changed, they haven't changed all that much.  What's on deck tonight?

Well, I was supposed to host dinner with friends tonight but that fell through so instead I decided to go run errands and do some shopping.  Almost three hours and 6 stores later, I'm back home. Not good for the wallet but some things were a necessity and it helped me avoid sitting home alone. So now to go relax in the recliner and watch a movie on Amazon Prime. "Manchester by the Sea" is now available, but I don't think I'm ready for that yet...

Its another super sexy Saturday night again, kids!  Saturday nights were so horrible early on when I felt like, having survived the day, I should have something to look forward to other than a Sunday of more than the same and the Sunday night pre-Monday work panic.

What's everyone got going on or not going on?  Its been a while for me but Saturday nights remain pretty pedestrian.  I am spiralizing giant zucchinis (this spiralizer thing is a revelation but also process that seems like it will never end because of never ending zucchini).  We got up early today and went to a farmers market and Hispanic festival in a nearby town and checked out a new micro-brewery.  We even walked across the PA/NJ state line, which we've done a thousand times but which everyone here always finds amusing.

What have you all got on deck?

I'm at home alone. My eight year old son went to camp after complaining 100 times. It's lonely and I'm still missing my husband after six years. I'll take the time to work and find a better job. No time off for me ever. I hope that this life gets better soon. Too much loss. Too much pain. Three glasses of wine will bring back everything. Stay strong everyone.

What's everyone up to?  Its Labor Day weekend and my daughter is at the shore and my husband is in England and I am home alone, feeling lonely.  Pile of kittens next to me (fostering kittens because our lives aren't insane enough as is) and its chilly and rainy here in PA.  Thinking about lighting a fire and opening a bottle of wine.  Last week was my first week back at school in a new position; it was stressful and exhausting and being alone this weekend should feel good but it doesn't.

I'm lying on the couch with the 5-month-old doberman/shepherd mix that my daughter decided on Wednesday that I needed. I should note that I have 6 cats already, 4 of them under a year old, plus my mom's aging Pom and three more cats outside. Oh, and a perpetually stoned rabbit. But Bella is extremely sweet, and she seems to help my daughter's anxiety-- besides, I need the exercise.

My mom is sulking and won't speak to anyone. I'd much prefer to be in my bedroom, but filial duty requires me to stay in the living room until at least 9 pm. There are many advantages to this living arrangement, but my mother's passive-aggressive bitchiness is not one of them.

Well, it's almost 6 PM here in Northern CA, and it's 108 degrees outside with "chunky" air (extremely bad air quality)....  So, I'm sitting exactly where I've been sitting all day, avoiding the light, trying to stay cool.

Later tonight, thought, I do have plans:  As soon as the temp falls below 90 (expected at about midnight) I'm going to do all of the chores I didn't do all day.

Hey all!
Here we are at another Saturday night. Thankfully the last several Saturday nights I was busy...with family or friends. But tonight I'm sitting home alone and not quite sure what I'm going to do. I just finished dinner so I guess dishes will be next. No new Hallmark movie on tonight so maybe I'll find something on Netflix, play a game of Solitaire, or do some reading. Not very sexy I know, but its been a busy day (did lots of stuff around the house) so I'm actually looking forward to a quiet evening with a Seagram's wine cooler!

What are others up to this evening?
