  1. I spoke to SS on Friday and told the man that I haven't saved any of the money. He told to write that on the form letter I received and send it back it to them. Hopefully that's the last that I hear from the until my younger son turns 18 in a few years.
  2. My oldest son will turn 18 at the end of the month. He has another year of high school to go and while he will receive SS payment throughMay of next year, I received a letter today from the SSA asking for any money I saved for him, including investments. I have been investing half of the money for him and his brother for the last eight years. I have never told SS that I've saved any of the money. Do I have to hand it over to SS and they will in turn hand it over to him? I would feel better knowing that money is making interest for him in an account and will be ready when the payments end next May. Can SS find out about this?
  3. I was speaking with DH's mother over Labor Day weekend. She will occasionally call em to see what's going on with me and the kids. That day, she asked me how my mom was doing - mom had a bout with Sepsis last summer. DH died of Sepsis in January 2011. The problem is that I took DH, the weekend of his passing, to a different hospital than what MIL would have gone to. I had him taken to Dublin Methodist hospital and MIL feels he should have gone to Riverside Methodist hospital. The two hospitals are part of the same group, Ohio Health. DH developed sepsis after not being treated for a urinary tract infection. The weekend he died was a culmination of depression and anxiety, taking place over two years, over DH not finding a job. The irony is that he was offered a few high paying jobs with very good benefits but turned them down because they were outside his field of civil engineering. One position was for the federal government and the other was a union job. He was too proud to take those jobs🤯. DH would have preferred us go into financial hell rather than take a union job that paid more than a civil engineering position. DH also had a short temper. My sons and I spent those last two years of DH's life walking on eggshells around him hoping he wouldn't lose that temper. DH was buying things for himself but there was never enough money to save for a family trip or pay extra on bills. He was begging his family members for money, behind my back, rather than take a part time job. So, by the time he became ill with sepsis, I had enough and was taking charge. I had him taken to Dublin Methodist hospital. When I spoke to MIL on Labor Day weekend a few weeks ago, she claimed that she's heard "A lot of bad things about that hospital. But it's all water under the bridge anyway." It has been nearly nine years since DH passed away. Why is she bringing this up now? What does it matter now? DH professed early in our marriage that he was a mama's boy. I don't think that she would ever find fault with him. Thanks for reading my long post.
  4. Both of my boys will be in high school this fall. My oldest son, Sean, in the last month, has started his first job, bought his first car ( a 2003 Toyota Avalon), opened a bank account, completed his Driver's Ed class and in car instruction and will be taking his test on July 12th. My younger son, Jack, who is autistic and non-verbal, will be starting high school this August and his vocational skills during the next few summers for employability. Yet, DH is not here, he's dead. My late husband isn't here for any of this. It pisses me off. That's all.
  5. Thank you, Trying and Abitlost. Father's Day is the most difficult day of the year.
  6. I was finally able to get through to one the HR people - she gave me the website address where I could log in and print everything that I need to. I hope this is everything that UHG needs.
  7. Ok, Update. I have cleared all of the background checks except my former employer, who let me go back in August, that needs to verify my employment with their organization. I realize that I'm now a former employee but it would take 5 minutes to do this with the new employer's partner, First Advantage and for whatever reason, have not done it yet. I have lived up to my end of the severance agreement and have not trashed my former company, or even mentioned what happened, on my social media. This website is the only place online that I've talked about it and even then, I haven't given any names or company name. I am just frustrated. Maybe they have seller's remorse....😝
  8. This agency, Portfolio Recovery Services, stopped calling for awhile and then started again this week. I finally picked up the phone and they're looking for BIL. BIL has never lived with me. However, BIL and his wife just recently went through a nasty divorce and he's responsible for her debt. I gave the ex-wife's phone number to the collection agency and they've taken my number off the list. Peace and quiet!
  9. I ran across this video last night and I think it might be a sign from DH. DH was never a big Van Halen fan but he loved aviation, especially military aviation. Matt's face always lit up when talking about this video. This unemployment from the last two months has had its ups and downs and I think it's odd that find this video on YouTube at this time:
  10. Thanks everyone for hanging out with me on this! I have passed the educational and drug test/TB test, but UHC still needs to verify my employment background with my last employer and one part of my criminal background check. I am excited and I have no criminal history but this is anxiety producing! UHC is serious when they say they only want the best and that I'll "be doing my life's best work". On the other hand, the bright spot in this unemployment is that I've gotten my confidence back. My supervisor at my last job found fault with everything I did. I'm sure that if she watched me use the restroom she'd spot a mistake there, too. I never received a review or raise for this year either. I was yelled at all the time. Who'd want to put up with that? I have to drive by the office on the way home and I've noticed that one of my former coworkers (at least her jeep) hasn't been in the parking lot for about a month. I've also read a few articles from business magazines and realized how toxic that office actually was. I'm glad not to be there anymore but anxious to get started at UHC.😃
  11. My other thread "I lost my job today" has become very long so I wanted to save me fellow widdas some time to announce I have a new job!! I was offered a credentialing position this morning from United Health Care. The office will be about 15 minutes away from my home and my kids' schools. It will be an hourly position and more money than the lost job! I start the 29th and and excited!
  12. I think I might have a job but am a little confused by this: Yesterday I interviewed with Buckeye Health Plan, a health insurance company here in Columbus (interview was set up by a staffing agency) and yesterday afternoon the staffing agency recruiter called me to say the insurance company wants to 'move forward' with background checks, etc. I received several emails afterward, all from the staffing agency, congratulating me on my new position, but I have no offer letter, pay rate, or even a start date with the insurance company. I emailed my recruiter asking him if there are benefits and if I'm employed by the staffing agency vs the insurance company. I don't even know if this a temp-to-hire situation. The description given was this was a contract job but no set time for the work duration. I haven't heard back from the recruiter, so I'm a little suspicious about this. Would you trust this staffing agency? I have the feeling that this recruiter has his commission so he's moved on to the next person and forgotten about me. If you're familiar with the Columbus, Ohio area, Buckeye Health Plan is located at Easton. On the other hand, I had a great interview with United Health Care on Wednesday morning. It was with both the hiring manager and her boss. They both said that they liked my energy and I should hear something by the end of this coming week or the early part of the following week. I really, really, really want this job with UHC. It's close to my home and UHC is a stable company with very few complaints.
  13. Ok, this is an update on last week. I interviewed with Aetna, which went well; interviewed with a radiology group and tested for the state. The Aetna position would have been for a "health Concierge", basically a glorified customer service position but I would be working with the clients from start to finish with their problem. The two managers that I interviewed with were very nice and I think i have a good chance with this. The benefits are very good and room to advance - something I haven't had in a while! I don't think that I will get the job with the radiology group - they're looking for a person to work part time at scanning their documents into their current EMR (Electronic Medical Records) system before they switch to their hospital's billing system - that makes me think that this is a temporary job as well. I am overqualified and, if I were the office manager, I wouldn't pick someone who would receive a better offer. My test for the state did not go well. I passed the first part of the exam but failed the second part by two questions. The job was for deciphering who receives SSA disability benefits from the state of Ohio. I think I dodged a bullet with this one because I would have had to work 120 claims per week and finish all of those claims by Friday afternoon. I would not be able to work any overtime or work from home after hours, and I would have been expected to help coworkers with their workload as well. No wonder the online employee reviews were all bad! I have an interview this Wednesday with United Health Care for a credentialing position. I would enjoy this job because I did credentialing from my behavioral health group and very familiar with it. Credentialing is the process of enrolling a provider(s) into a health insurance company. The United Health Care office is in a part of Columbus that I've worked in previously so it's in familiar territory. I really do appreciate all of your support and being my listening board through all of this. I hope to have a job soon😁

Please apply for other jobs within the company", or the generic "Thanks, but no thanks and best wishes". And yes, my first name is Stephanie😀 However, last week I applied for a position at my former employer, Anthem, and I listed myself as a rehire. Yesterday, I received an email from an Anthem recruiter asking for more personal information because HR couldn't find me in their system. I'm hoping that means that they're interested!
  15. Hi Julia, I'm sorry that you had to join us but glad that you did find us. I'm also very sorry for all of your family drama right now, some people just don't think that their actions affect others 🧐. If you need support, just come here and talk. We can help you deal with it.
  16. There is a bottom feeding collection agency, Portfolio Collection Services, that has been calling me off and on for the last few months. I call them bottom feeding because this collection agency will buy old debt from creditors for pennies on the dollar, hoping to make money buy arranging a payment plan with the debtor. They never leave a message and I have not received anything in writing from them regarding a debt. In fact, I've pulled my credit report from all three bureaus and nothing is listed in collections, nor are there any negative remarks made against me. There is no reason for these people to be calling me. Should I block the number or actually try to talk to them? I'm afraid if I do the latter then they'll try even harder to sink their claws into me. The only reasons I can think that the collection agency would call me me is if DH had some old debt, but he died in 2011 and my state is not a community property state so I'm not responsible for his debt. All of DH's debt, that I know of, had been written off by 2013. The other reason is BIL and his now ex-wife have some debt with Best Buy. Best Buy was calling me last fall looking for BIL.
  17. This week will be an exciting one! I have an interview tomorrow afternoon with Aetna, an interview on Thursday afternoon with a radiology group and a exam with the state of Ohio on Friday morning. I also heard from a recruiter at Anthem this morning - I listed myself as a 'rehire' on their application(s) and HR couldn't find me. I'm hoping that means that Anthem is interested. I worked for Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield from 1999-2004 and would love to go back there again. If I pass the interview for the state on Friday, I will be interviewed and need to give a 5 minute presentation on why I would be an asset to the state department - it's for a Disability Claims Adjudicator position, basically deciphering if a disabled person should receive state benefits. Lastly, I had my resume redone by a professional. It looks so much better than what I could have put together. I hope it will lead to a job. 😃
  18. Today has not been good - I got a rejection notice email from Ohio State this morning but it's confusing me a bit. I applied for a position called "Patient Access Coordinator" - basically getting the patient's insurance information and then benefits and lining up any payments up front, like a copay or deductible. This is something I've done for years. When I interviewed last week, I did not interview for this position but for actually three other different departments with five different managers. I was told ahead of the interview that these managers would be interviewing every Thursday through October 4th, and to expect to hear something in early to mid October. So I'm not sure why I would be receiving a rejection letter for this position, Patient Access Coordinator, that I never interviewed for. The rejection email stated that so many applications were received for this position that choosing one was difficult and they decided to go with a more closely matched candidate. I think that's jargon for going with an internal candidate. I feel like I have failed and am back at square one again. I have lots of other things going for me but I really wanted to work at Ohio State.
  19. OH MY GLOB!.....I need to proofread before I submit! 😶
  20. Alright - I want to keep all of you updated 😀 I've spoken with three recruiters this week - one for a hospital system, one for Aetna and one for United Healthcare. I've got an interview with Aetna on October 2nd. The United Healthcare recruiter was pretty impressed and stated that she will forward my information to the hiring manager, so I should be looking for an email with an interview date. If I don't get into Ohio State, I would like to work at UHC or Aetna. I know it sounds strange but I would love to be back at a large company again. I worked at Anthem for five years and I took the ability to move around and advance my career for granted. It was so nice to hear "perfect" from the recruiters this week as I spent the last six months on my job being told that I'd made a mistake on everything. I'm feeling better about my future but will be ecstatic when I have an offer!
  21. I believe this might be a narcissistic trait. I had a former boss that behaved this way and no one could stand her. A good example is that she knew I was a young widow but she went through a divorce so she deserved so much more sympathy. I would just ignore this person. Most likely she doesn't understand why people want to shove her anyway.
  22. This has been Homecoming at my son's high school and every day has had a theme. Tuesday was "Dress Like Your Dad Day". My son is now 16 and lost his dad at age 8, I wasn't sure how he would handle it or even remember how his dad dressed. He did fine that day - he wore a tan shirt and khaki pants. I know it sounds silly but I really proud of the way he handled it.
  23. I agree with you Bunny - Geddy Lee's voice is an acquired taste! I've never heard anyone ever say "I can't wait for the new Rush album. Geddy Lee's got a great singing voice" or something to that effect. His voice is actually better now than it was in the 70s. Anyway, I just like the lyrics of their song above. DH died almost 8 years ago and I'd like to think that Mr #2 is still out there, that's all.
  24. I interviewed with Ohio State University Medical Center (the Wexner Medical Center to us locals) yesterday - it went well, but a little nerve wracking. I interviewed with five managers of three departments at the same time 😰. Two of the three looked very promising - the third I just can't do because of being a single mom with a special needs child. The manager that escorted me out after the interview said that I did great. I hope to hear good news in 4-6 weeks! If I meet the protocols and standards, I can work from home 😊 that would be great!!! I also have an interview with Mt Carmel next Monday afternoon and I have a state exam on Friday, October 5. The state exam is for a Disability Claims Adjudicator position - both an exam and an interview if I pass the exam first. I will also need to do a 5 minute presentation on why I word be an asset to that department. Luckily I have three weeks to work on it. Wish me luck! My last employer is in my rear view mirror--
  25. I've got an interview with Ohio State University Medical Center next Thursday afternoon!
