Teen son had his first breakup

My 15 year old son was dumped by his girlfriend yesterday and he is tore upon about it.  She said that she needed space - I don't know why when she was calling DS all the time (she had a special ringtone on DS's phone, so I knew she she was calling him).  He was so upset by it last night that he vomited.  He has not eaten anything until late this afternoon.  I feel terrible for him.  He has stayed in his room all day and I'm getting to come out slowly.  We all know that this is a part of life but I want him to feel better.  I though it would be best to let him rest today, take it easy, and he will be over her soon.  Is there something else that I can do, or should I step aside a bit?

That's rough, Rooshy. For me, heartache is one of the most excruciating pains. I don't know that I have any good advice, other than to find ways to remind him that *he* is an awesome person. I think one's self-esteem can get rattled after a break-up. It's probably a good idea to get him out and distracted so that he's thinking about other things rather than fixating on her. He'll get through it, which might be soon but might not.

Tell him you're sorry he hurts and then step aside. No big talk, no special meal, etc. - just let it go. But, yeah, if you can get him to get distracted with something, that would be good.

It will take care of itself.

Being a kid is hard.
