She will be 17 in March. That first year was pure HELL!!! I fought harder than I've ever had to fight in my life! I learned what being broken and lost can do to a person. She was 14. (That's hard enough without a major life change.)  she looked to many different avenues for relief of the pain! Very destructive avenues. I was terrified! Mortified by some of the things she did to try to deal with the death of her Dad.

On a positive note, she learned that none of those things worked and eventually made her way through the darkness. She is stronger for it. Now, I don't have to worry about drugs, sex, self harm, drinking, etc. I also see her compassion for others who are hurting, as well as her disgust for other kids who do these things recreationally or for attention. She is an amazing person!

She is planning college, she is a straight A student, she saves and manages money well, she has a beautiful heart! And when somebody is hurt or sick or down for the count, she is just like her Mama and is all business about getting things done until they feel better.

I love my kid! And I hope this gives others hope who are going through something similar!
