She struggled for years with mental illness and her friends cared about her deeply and supported her any way they could. After the funeral, one of her BFFs and I were talking about how hard she fought her illness and her buddy said to me "Well, she gave it her best shot." She, of course, was horrified but we then both just laughed that embarrassed, nervous laughter. She meant well. What are you gonna do?
