  1. This would potentially be his Christmas bonus check, his supervisors came to visit today and they said he might still get one. Usually the check is between $500-$1000. I did receive new insurance cards with estate of LH's name on them as I thought his health insurance Only ran until the end of last month, as he passed November 25th
  2. Does anyone know what I do with checks made payable to the estate? My husband died without a will and under statutory law everything would pass to me according to state law (I am in NY)
  3. Does anyone know if social security backdated as my appointment is not until early February? I qualify for the one time payment and my children qualify for survivor benefits but I do not the survivor caretaker benefits as my income is too high.
  4. I called this morning as I just got the death certificate and the earliest office appointment I could get was early February!!
  5. My husband had a heart transplant at the age of 24 20 years ago at the Cleveland Clinic and started having health issues this past spring with arrithymias and urosepsis from a complication from a kidney stone. He was admitted on 11/15 and his kidneys started to shut down as he was retaining fluid. He went into cardiac arrest in the ICU and passed away on 11/25. We have a 16 year old that Mike adopted from my first marriage and a son that is 9 that was very close. The last few days leading up to Mike's death were hard as he was at the Cleveland Clinic but myself and the kids were at home 4 hours away :'(.
  6. Is there a limit on how much you can earn as logically I would think this would be treated as child support. I was the primary breadwinner before my husband passed away. My kids would qualify for survivor benefits but I know I would not qualify for the ongoing ones as I work FT. I just got the death certificates today and I was going up to our social security office early next week.
  7. This is my biggest struggle right now as Mike loved the holiday season and he passed just 11 days ago. I feel there is nothing to celebrate which makes it difficult with a 9 year old
  8. Thanks Maureen and jgib. I have a coworker that lost her husband suddenly 17 years ago but her boss I think made her come back after two weeks and he was the type to expect you to be physically in her office. Mike was in and out of two different hospital for the last 6 months and was in ICU the last nine days. He had a heart transplant at the Cleveland Clinic 20 years ago.
  9. I was wondering how long you were out of work after your spouse passed? I am dreading to go back physically in the office as I know everyone will come to see me and ask questions. I have been out almost two weeks. My supervisor told me to take the time but I know eventually I will have to go back. I was thinking of initially going back part time with working from home initially.
  10. I lost my husband to heart failure on November 25th. He was a heart transplant recipient 20 years ago and started having health issues this past spring. I miss him so much and I feel very alone. We have two kids one that is 16 and one that just turned 9. We were married 10 years but together a total of 13 years. Thanks Carrie
