NH here, a bit further up on the Appalachian Range-but WV is definitely on my list of places to visit and I would make my way down there somehow. This summer, I shot the wad on one trip that I have been planning for quite some time, but I am hoping to be like Nuggets when I grow up and just travel for the rest of my life!!!!!

I am a mountain girl at heart and really love the places that you can only get by walking.

I need a change of scenery so I am declaring myself IN right now. We enjoyed Hocking Hills when we were there a few years ago, but I'm good with anything EXCEPT the ghost stuff...Sugarbell, you are a believer in that hocus pocus stuff and I'm not, so I'd just be a Debbie Downer :)

SB, M and I will come (watch out Serpico  ;)) if the timing works and is drivable from here. We must get this crew of children together.  I'm sure I could fill my car with a few others from these parts.  I see your oldest and my only starting the business that will guarantee our retirements.....one can hope or at least be amused.

Awesome! Was just seeing if there was any interest....

I will find packages/deals on a few of these...

We will nix the paranormal all nighter events-kids under 18 aren't allowed (didn't realize that till after I posted)

Whitewater rafting with little ones-We should stick with upper New River...it's mild and open for all ages.

I will also check out packages/rates at Hocking Hills

Also going to check out Canaan Valley/Blackwater Falls area. (An area I love so much I names my first born after the town lol).. it's in the center of the state so it gets a lot of oeople from Va, MD, PA, DC. They have hiking, kayaking, tubing, zip lining, etc.

I will get prices...throw out some dates and see if there is still interest. My kids and I go on several long weekends in the summer to some of these places and it's always a blast.

Hi Sugarbell,

I'd be interested in a WV outdoors adventure "bago" in August.

I can drive a carpool from the Phila suburbs, for anyone else who may want to come..

Great suggestion for a get-together!

(the widda previously known as "rootless")

Ok...Here is first option...

2 Day Trip down the Upper New River (it's an easy one and the only ore approved for all ages)...All meals are included and we have a guide. You can either camp in Platform Tents (tent is already set up just bring sleeping bag-sleep on a cot) or stay in cottages/cabins (electric, nice all amenities)

Those prices are for 2 days platform camping all meals-150 per person

Cottages Are from 225-300 per person depending on how nice you want.

They also have packages with zip lining, rock climbing, climbing the bridge, airplane rides-but it's more costly if you spilt activities (like zip line a day then white water raft a day)

Those who want more upscale can stay at the resort (pools, bars, casinos)...But when I travel with my kids I tend to be cheap and camp.

I am waiting on package prices for Hocking Hills Ohio -which they have really nice huge 8br chalets if we wanted to stay as a group or individual chalets. Zip lining and canoeing kayaking.

Other option is Harpers Ferry-Eastern Panhandle which is closer for PA peeps. Hocking Hills closer for Ohio peeps. New River about the same for all of us (but it's really pretty)

Just throwing these out-Don't want to scare anyone off with the platform tent camping Lol

Ok guys....It looks like Adventures on the Gorge in Fayetteville WV would be the best bet.

I am thinking anytime after July 10-August 10th. Like 2 nights/3 days.

Now....do you want me to book like a 2 day Upper New Trip (either camping in already standing tents or bunkhouses) Or...Do you want to let everyone depending on their interests just pick own adventures and different groups go and meet up each day for dinner, etc.

They have 4 bedroom deluxe cabins..sleeps 10...or if families/couples/individuals chose pick there own.

It all falls under Advenrures on the Gorge Resprt-It has several good restaurants, pubs on site.

I guess I am thinking if some people make the drive and they are thrill seekers they would rather do the Gauley (must be over 16-It's tough) or Lower New...They also have amazing tree too canopy tours, zip lines, kayak, duckies, paintball, guided rock climbing, hiking, mountain biking, paddle boards, fly fishing.

Some may want to just hang by the pool.

Guess I am trying to figure out-if everyone wants to do the same adventures-or depending on your interests. (I am a thrill seeker myself-but I will have a 7 year old with me..so I am more limited)

This really is one of the most beautiful sections of the state. This resort is new and looks amazing.

Thoughts?

Sugarbell, I'm tentatively in depending on the dates. (Just a crazy time of year) I just looked up the Adventures website and everything sounds great.

I'm a camper so I'm up for the outside/camping in any way shape or form.

Keep me updated on your responses and let me know final dates/prices.

Thank you for putting this together.

Ok guys....after going through kids schedules, camps, etc. looks like the first week in August works best here.

Weekend of August 7th, 8th and 9th??--2 nights 3 nights

These 2 sister outdoor recreation resorts are on the gorge

Adventures on the Gorge

219 Chestnut road

Land sing WV 888 406 4679

Ace Adventure Resort

1 Concho Road

Minded WV 304 469 2651

I plan to camp both nights...they have free standing platform tents...rate is 15.00 per person

They also have "group" tents...which are pretty much 2 4 person tents like under the same shelter.

And lots of cabins, deluxe cabins, etc

I suggest those interested look at these 2 resorts via FB. They give pics, details, videos of all the types of adventures. Ace adventure has a huge lake with lots of kids slides, inflatable, etc.

Adventure on the Gorge has the pool/resort.

Cheapest way to go is the 2 day upper new trip (camping)...But I want to make sure everyone sees everything they can do down there before confirming a group for Upper New River.

I want it to be worth your trip and make sure your group, family gets to do what they really want to do if forking out the $$$$

Basically trying to Appeal to all groups here.

Y'all will love this place!!!
