  2. It sounds to me like there is a difference between gifted children who can be educated in either public or private schools, and Bob, who seems to be exceptionally gifted. Tofinoman says that Bob is 11 grades ahead of his peers. I don't think this child can just be swept into the typical system. The trick is going to be trying to find appropriate educational resources AND finding ways to allow Bob to socialize as normally as possible. I have worked in an early-to-college program myself (I know of residential college programs for students as young as high school juniors/grade 11) and some of our students were extremely frustrated in more typical schools. Their parents often resorted to online education/homeschooling, but parents had some frustration because they did not feel equipped to teach their own children. The students in our program prefer to socialize with other highly gifted peers, where they feel understood...or with adults. I hope that others, such as abitlost and RyanAmysMom, who have raised or know of others who have raised highly exceptional children can offer more specific information about what worked for their children. Maureen Wheelerswife you are right about what i was meaning but described terribly. Bob isn't an older kid of say 10, much less a basically grown teenager of 15. Bob should have been relaxing in grade 1 not doing university classes. University professors say Bob would tire of 1st year university within a month. Bob isn't just good at regular classes like math either. Doing geography can point out every country and name the capital on a map. But then tell you the lat and long coordinates of the capital. Bob hung around a machinest/fabricator briefly and watched. Then instinctively knew how to make very complex items and program perfectly machines in a fraction of the time a well trained and college degree educated user can do it that runs it daily. And do so from a hand drawn sketch. Or spend a little time with a ship captain and be handed some books. Then get 100% on every test to become an unlimited captain meant for people who graduated up and up in tonnage and have 20 years experience on the oceans in giant ships. Bob likes books and reads at a rate that would boggle most peoples minds. Not books a typical 4 or 5 year old would read at those ages. Tech manuals for complex aircraft or history books and the list goes on. P Adults 25 to 65 with an IQ of 170 talk to Bob and they feel that maybe the idea they used to have of their being very smart was incorrect and they feel inferior to Bob's 5 year old mind. Bob spends a few hours with a marine mechanic of over 20 years experience and one of the top in his field. Then comments he is learning outboard repair things he still didn't know from Bob doing an engine overhaul. Bob was talking to one of his parents about the molecular structure of metals during the heat treating process to harden it. Bob baffled his parent and the parent just sat nodding. When asked Bob said that the information can be found online and read. If Bob was 15 or even 10 the people who love Bob and are concerned about him wouldn't be bothered by the idea of university. My hypothetical Bob character in question is a little kid. Thanks for the awesome input by all to a hypothetical question. And sorry for the poor description given by me to what i was meaning to ask. I am certainly not smart and if i was then would have made it clear Bob the character in this scenario was merely a young child not an olxer child or a teenager. No i do not have a son if someone wonders if i was talking about my son.
  3. Oneoftwo you are right kids need to be kids. Thankfully this hypothetical child also knows how to play. Thank you for the input.
  4. RyanAmysMom thank you kindly. Bob does not like school or its super slow pace either.
  5. Imissdow, thank you very much.
  6. I have a hypothetical question for any and all to chime in on. Lets say you know someone who had a child who is smarter than most of the kids their age. Lets call this child Bob. Bob in many ways is a regular child who likes to play and loves dogs and cheeseburgers. But Bob has an IQ through the roof, and his teachers are at a loss as to even what to do with him. He could be in a class 11 grades above usual for his age....or more... Would you advise that Bob be let soar freely like an eagle in an updraft to reach any heights he can. Or held back because it is important for kids to just be kids. Just interested in the collective thoughts on this. Cheers
  7. A few renos turned into an addition and largely redoing my entire house after a giant tree fell on it. And what is a new house with a giant new garage added on. So hey since I've gone this far lets add decks and dig out the old pool and put in a fancy new pool to. Be careful starting a reno...they tend to expand quickly into a massive reno.
  8. I survived the 1 year mark. Am homeward bound to Canada now but still in Mexican waters. I like Mexico and cannot wait to go back. But hoping for better health next trip down. My winter vacation turned into a winter recovery. But i survived even if just barely. Slowly steaming north and likely hit American waters tomorrow. Happy Easter everyone! Go hug someone today....anyone...even a stranger that looks sad....hugs really are therapeutic. Blessings
  9. Hi Rebecca. Very sorry to hear he just went out for some fresh air and exercise and you lost him. Adding you and many other great people on this forum to my prayers. My daughter wanted to try and understand some stuff better so asked me to show her this forum tonight. When she read yours it really struck a nerve with her. May God bring you peace and the love of friends dear!
  10. I have lost weight and didn't even go on a diet. Yay lol
  11. Thanks Canadiangirl. Yes it is our first Christmas since Jenny passed. I'm only thankful Boo is young enough to be okay so far. Nothing like a child to make me feel truly blessed! My life centers are my daughter. I have good people back home taking care of business and my home and pets. Daily photos texted to me of my house repairs from the storm damage. My Dad, 2 sisters, 1 brother in law and good friend Tiffany joined us today. Now with 2 Tiffanys on the boat its a bit confusing so they are Tiff and Tiffany. Whatever you have planned CGirl I hope you are happy and healthy. Blessings
  12. Just wanted to wish you all a Merry Christmas. I don't stop by often I know. But thinking of you all. Currently on my boat headed towards La Paz Mexico. It is 26C outside right now and another fabulous weather day. I think its about 78F for the non metric folks. Picked up some extra passengers along the way. My best friend Diana got on in California. Several people joined us today in Cabo. Will be anchoring a few miles from La Paz tomorrow. Great trip down with several stops to see friends. Epic dirt biking with friends at Oregon dunes. More spectacular rides and wayyyy too much laughter and craziness with the lunatics camping along the south baja coast....Boo is doing great and came back from riding with the ladies the other day so filthy i threw her into the ocean just to clean her off somewhat.. ..for a few minutes I thought they switched kids on me and brought me back a different child. But once the 10 pounds of dirt was washed off it was indeed my daughter under the filth after all. She has been having lots of fun! Blessings to you all.
  13. You are better off to end it hard and final. Stay single a while until you love who you are and your life. Then find a top quality man...I'll say it again....MAN not a boy. Some real men do still exist. Not all are game players, into immature shit, have loser jobs, can't hold a real conversation. Find a man. He should hold the door. Drive a real car or truck. Have a job that has a solid future. Not live with his dad. Never smoke or do drugs or play video games. Own a house. Max 2 drinks a week of alcohol....and i mean maximum....2 a year is better. Not wear crap in his hair. Dress like a man....and not carry a purse. Date a man! Let others be stuck with the boys.
  14. Many women are not flirty or nice pick up lines...they are just crass and rude. Last week one said to me. NICE ASS. I HOPE I SEE IT GOING UP AND DOWN ON ME IN MY BEDROOM MIRROR SOON. Yet another classy tramp OMG. I'm not going to date anyone. But if I was going to, and she wanted any chance. Try taking my hand, and saying to me. You are such a nice man, I would like to buy you dinner some evening or take you for a walk on the beach with my hand in yours. Being slutty trash is a huge turn off.
  15. Very simple for me. My daughter is not going to be subjected to me dating till she is an adult. When she is 19 or older, and if I meet some truly amazing woman, I'll consider dating her. Till then no damn way!
  16. When you run into him, and you likely will. Just smile, be polite, say life is great, make very brief small talk, and move on. Be positive. Its just and ex, most of us have some ex of some sort. I ran into an ex girlfriend recently, and kept it short and upbeat. She is a psycho.....best thing to do with a psycho ex is be happy and keep it short.
  17. If i was the guy i probably would have left to, just earlier. Sounds like the 17 year old is too much the boss in the house. When you find a man willing to put up with that run a full page newspaper ad with his picture announcing that you found the greatest and most tolerant man on earth.
  18. I don't want to date, but if I was going to try online dating I would not want a photo. It could make it to easy to judge a lady on her looks, and not on her heart. Better to be with a 4/10 in looks with a 10/10 personality....than the other way around.
  19. Was hot tubbing with some good people tonight.....the one gal is a newer friend, and never met my Jenny....she asked why I called her Smack. Before I got out a word my sister in law aka Jenny's sister said he always Smacked her cute ass, and that was how it started. It stuck hard that name, and it became her nickname. I sat there half laughing and half crying from the memories. Wow I miss her...but nobody can steal the memories.
  20. Movies. Basically walk every dog in the neighborhood when you walk your dog because they all choose to join you.........or yell and send them back home immediately?
  21. I am always ip for hearing about a great recipe. Back to the original topic of Google. I Google words I don't know the meaning of more than anything else.
  22. Fuck that people think i need to move on. Fuck that assholes want me to date. Really fuck the insensitive jerks who says hurtful shit because they are so stupid.
  23. Pool. Go out dancing or stay home and fix the un-alphebatized bookcase.
