I have the same feeling heading into 3 weddings I have ahead (almost every month this summer) it will be my first time attending any wedding without Don there and its all my immediate family I am already thinking in my head, ok of I park the car close I can slip out and no one will know that I am gone already feeling invisible at large gatherings so I think it might work and seeing any invites to anniversary parties would be a really tough one , glad at least it was a false alarm but still an alarm that brought back sadness

Travel Anxiety
donswife replied to Guaruj's topic in Shock Wears Off, Reality Sets In ( 6 to 12 months)
I remember avoiding a few trips and was anxious about going to florida for a week to visit my sister 'there was going to be a bunch of us and I was very anxious about being overloaded with all the talking etc and no down time plus I was going to miss my home that brought me comfort and still fell my husband everywhere I will let you know I planned times to be alone (like swimming in the pool )or brought a book so I could just sit and not have to talk , it really helped I will say I did have a good time and it was a great distraction from the sadness I wish you luck and I am sure your cat will be ok , very independent animals and will miss you -
dont go inward , it would only fester and not be good for anyone You and I sound like we had very similar husbands who gave us deep love and respect, treated us like we walked on water . Very rare indeed Such a hard thing(to say the least) to have yanked from us and I mean no flooring beneath and breath knocked out of us kinda yanked I am here to listen if that helps

Sending strength your way , you can do this but I know it must be hard Hugs

such a good question , mine is still at my Mom's house but I should go and get it its a simple short white dress , married in the backyard very casual so not really in the same category as wedding dress maybe a local church might know of a place that you could donate to

I don't have to be strong all the time, right?!?
donswife replied to klim's topic in General Discussion
of course you can deal with this but it get so exhausting holding it all together so these moments of just wanted to be taken care of are not only understood but shared by all of us Take care -

oh so true ...everything you all wrote I miss the private jokes, holding hands , slaps on the butt , our sarcastic senses of humor that others would find odd those looks across a crowded room that would make me instantly smile ,oh those gorgeous green eyes like you said could be here all day ...

Hi if I decided to sell my house and I have imagined I would rent for at least a year we built the house together (just finished a 2 year renovation right before he died) so I am really emotionally attached But the upkeep is exhausting so I imagine would be so nice for a break to have someone else do all the upkeep by renting plus its seems like a bonus for you to save some money good luck in whatever you decide

that was amazing writing ...felt every bit of your climb both emotionally and physically the same climb we all take every day, then the alarm goes off and we start our day thank you for that

great Job figuring out the day take care -
seriously someone needs to write this I remember desperately looking for something that would help that I could read closest thing I got was the book "I am grieving as fast as I can" but that covered the basic ...not the true gut wrenching feelings and true stories from the heart the search brought me to here (well the old board first) cant tell you how much it has saved me

E's 41st Birthday.. Suggestions
donswife replied to sdarrah1130's topic in Newly Widowed (1 day to 6 months)
I haven't gotten to Dons birthday time yet , tough time i can imagine but like you want to celebrate them but I do plan on making his favorite food and making spice cake with peanut butter frosting I would have family over you could still go fishing , you could buy power bait ,if you don't consider that cheating (don had strong opinions about that whatever you do I am sure it will be the right thing take care -
Reluctant to reveal that I'm widowed
donswife replied to Silwe's topic in Beyond the First Year (1+ years)
Not weird at all , I never know if I should just blurt it out or just not say anything sometimes I just want to be a regular person and not a widow if that makes sense People's reactions to saying the widow word are so hard to Judge sometimes just shocks them into silence or the worst is the pity look but I feel if I dont say anything its like I am lying , so like you not sure what to say or do -
Been bugging me for a week now. Have to get it out.
donswife replied to Tweety76's topic in Beyond the First Year (1+ years)
I am at the 6 month stage but I look here to see what may be ahead also to look for hope that it gets better or to brace myself for whats ahead I could never imagine being angry at Don , I do get furious at the universe for robbing him/me of the future I do agree everyone grieves in their own way and I embrace all that everyone has to offer I am hopeful the new wids took in what they could I know I grabbed on to the getting better stories to get me through -

friend insisted we go kayaking for the first time in 3 years (don and I were renovating the house those years) so loaded up our kayaks on the truck myself pretty proud of that ,plus proud of the fact our kayaks touched water which don would have loved then planted flowers in window boxes and whiskey barrels so the house looks like it has a little bit of life back in her
