My husband Don was also an amazing handy man , together we rebuilt our 100 year old house putting in a new kitchen and master bedroom and bath well "we" was him I mostly did grunt work and clean up, he didnt even really need plans said it was all in here (pointing to his head) he was an amazing craftsman and I mean he could do everything from plumbing to electrical he made it look effortless but what i miss most was how much fun and laughs we had doing it together god how i miss that good luck with your project and thanks for starting this post

donswife replied to Jess's topic in Shock Wears Off, Reality Sets In ( 6 to 12 months)
right with you Jess ! I find sundays the hardest as these are the days that we would just have time with each other I was also once an optimist but when life deals you this its almost impossible to find the positive so just know you are not alone and also I have always hated roller coasters , never understood why you would terrify yourself for fun -
My don also died suddenly like your husband so hard to wrap your head and heart around the reality of it all but right now you dont have to deal with anything but what you need to get through the day /minute the first few months are a fog

just know reaching out here is a good way to know you are not alone I am so sorry you have to be here I do agree making sure you try and go out even for the mail etc did help and breathe was great advise, I would sometimes be reading on this site and notice I was almost holding my breath so I would make sure I took deep breathes to try and relax my extremely tense and sad body and I did find a support group that was a good , only 5 of us but just to be in a room with people who know how hard this is was helped a lot take care

I have had that type type of dream . not the cheating part but all of a sudden Don shows up I am shocked and asked how this happened ? he never really says but I keep saying you were cremated and asked weird questions like what do we do about insurance Money ? that's how real it was then I did calm down in the dream and got to get one of his bear Hugs so mine was a really nice feeling when I got up but I can relate to how realistic it was and emotional so I can see how upsetting this would be for you with all the raw emotion and anger , hard to shake off not easy to take

donswife replied to lcoxwell's topic in General Discussion

Virgo- seeing the truck and having to decide what to do with it was one of the hardest things I had to do sounds so funny with all the crap we have to do I cried everytime I thought of it I am sure it the same is for you with the cobra mustang , dont worry about when you will sell it you'll know the right time I think it was because don and I had only good times with the truck that made it so hard was just cruising and having fun , something that seems so far away

donswife replied to Carey's topic in General Discussion
oh man that's a lot to have to handle thank god you still have your sense of humor don could fix anything also and now even trying to fix something simple takes me forever and I do curse at him when I am doing it I agree the condo idea is sounded better and better to me everyday good luck with the burst pipe -
Just wanted to share I decided to sell my Dons show truck , it had been in storage for 4 years while we renovated our house It was a truck we had when we were dating , bought it for $500. He worked on it for years to make it an award winning truck I hated the idea of it just sitting there , slowly rusting away A friend of ours bought it and came and picked it up tonight I couldn't be here , would be to sad to see it drive away My friend left whatever was in the truck in my doorway ..license plate , registration . the only piece of paper that was in the glove box was the receipt for my engagement ring he bought me 24 years ago again a sign he gave me loud and clear I did the right thing

Tell me about your four legged friend....
donswife replied to ManutesGirl's topic in General Discussion
so sorry to hear about your beastie boy , bet that broke your heart ,,again the instincts they have in finding peoples inner souls has always amazed me I have a wonderful black lab named Dixie , she was training to be a therapy dog but didn't make the cut and a cat named Edith Dixie is what they call a fabulous flunky , so they're loss is my gain Don always wanted a black lab , he fished so always imagined taking her with him , of course she was a bit of a handful so that didn't happen She adored don but whats even funnier is Edith the cat was dons favorite Edith had a really hard time after don died and wasn't here , I know sounds weird she started attacking any Man that came in the house , she pinned my Bil in the basement and he had to yell to get us to move her took her to the vet and they said she was trying to protect the house shes much better now and of course they both sleep with me , which is nice , they seem to know its heartbreaking having the bed to myself -

Hi I am going to a wonderful therapist. She had once helped our family get through my sisters passing Once my don died i reconnected with her She has been extremely helpful. I am not your usual "let me write in a journal and talk all about my childhood kinda person So I go in with what I need and she gives me concrete things to do The best part is you are there for a certain amount of time to talk about your fears Sadness etc. things that I am sure we only do for s minute with family and friends so not to burden them I hope you like counseling

this is so funny and not so funny the day after my dons funeral I got a notice that cars were blocking the mailbox so no mail for you I get that no problem , then a few days later an official drawing of proper placement of mailbox (it was a tiny bit sideways) so no mail for me again ...so it was on!!! i had stopped by the post office early to get my mail the first time and explained my situation(from a very small town) then my cute neighbors kids had written me a wonderful card , crayons and all and put it in my mailbox my mail carrier took it and left me a notice saying I had to pick something up at the post office it was the cute letter but it didn't have a stamp so i had to pay for it before I could get it can you believe that ! it is all kinda funny now but really this stuff sent me over the edge at the time , kicker is she often talked to mu husband when he was out doing yard work

thinking of you and so sorry
