Ok, I'm an idiot. What do DH, DW, LH etc. mean?

I think to most of us it means different things.

Some mean dear, some mean departed, some mean dead.

Yeah I kinda make up my own version when I'm reading. The one I did really wrong ( mostly because I seem dyslexic sometimes) was DGI....I though it was God damn Idiot........ which really doesn't work. :)

I have since learned it mean ...Don't get its....as in people that don't get our situation and there for generally say something or do something stupid.

D is "dear" and I first encountered it on Babycenter (a site for moms and moms to be) in late 90's.

So dd or ds is dear daughter/son. DH is generally dear husband. DW = dear wife.

L is for "late", so LH is late husband.

But there is overlap

IL is in-laws. MIL is mother in law then. BIL is brother in law. etc.

S is used to indicate step, which translates dss being dear step son.

And should venture into Social there is BF or GF - boy/girlfriend. SO is significant other. FWB is friend with benefits.

Probably not covering everything but just basics that once you have them makes it easy to decipher most things via context.

Hope this helps.

That's pretty much it.  Does anyone have a key to the acronyms/initialisms used on this site?  I'm assuming that "H" is husband, "W" is wife, but is "D" deceased or darling or dear or dead?

Thanks?

I remember asking something along the same lines when I joined, oh so many years back.  I'd never been part of an online group before, so it was all new.

Perhaps an admin could make and pin a post with the list of acronym definitions? I remember being a little perplexed by some when I first joined the old board.

We can put this perhaps in the Introduction part of the forum. Compile the abbreviations in this thread and we will make it happen.
